Agreed with the sentiments, it's one tool of many.
I would nevertheless like to respond to the argument of not overwhelming the
medical system as an important reason behind the various policy decisions. The number of ICUs in for example The
Netherlands, where I am from, has been on a declining trajectory for decades due to consistent, massive cost cutting and now, almost 2 years into this pandemic, nothing has been done to reverse this decline. Yet handing EUR4b to KLM was a done deal from the get go, probably because the Dutch state thought it would be cool to be a shareholder of said airline a few years earlier, to match the prestige of the French govt, and to suffer a total loss on their investment due to Covid would be... embarrassing.
In Switzerland, where I reside, the shortage of ICUs again is the main reason behind policy decisions yet here the number of ICUs are actually
being cut back as we speak.

So by all means, protect the
health care system, but perhaps give 'm some cash &
equipment so they can do their job. Like in the UK where (sarcasm alert) the nurses got a massive pay rise the other day.
