Don't bother
buying travel insurance for covid-related issues. You will never collect.
We
lost more than $1,000 to Travel Insurance International on a
charter we booked long before covid entered the picture. You'd think a pandemic-scuttled trip would be exactly what such insurance covers, right?
You would be wrong.
The
Internet consumer
forums are filled with complaints about TII, Expedia and other writers of travel insurance. The fine print limits coverage to extremely narrow situations that you likely won't meet.
Even worse, Dream Yacht
Charter wanted us to fork over all of our scheduled payment to qualify for a future trip at an unknown date. We just ate the 30 percent down and the wasted premium payment to TII.
Good thing, too.
Grenada, where we wanted to sail, still has all kinds of covid restrictions a year after the scheduled trip.
Dream Yacht Charter appears to be in total disarray, with investors/owners cursing everywhere over cancelled payments from DYC and reports of charter
boats in bad shape.
Making the full payment would have been good
money after bad.
