Covid 19 Hits New Caledonia

Today, we had an e-mail from our friend in New Caledonia, and the closed door policy has now failed there. There are 3 cases, two in Noumea, and one in Lifou. None of the victims has overseas travel in their background. Their congress has unanimously passed a mandatory vaccination law for all adults, probably with exceptions for people with a valid medical reason to not get the shot. Part of the explanation for the unanimous vote is the terrible spread of Covid 19 in the Societies and Marquesas.

Immediate lockdown is being applied as of today, initially for 2 weeks, expected to pertain through January. There is also a Reuters article. I don't know what language it is in.

likely arrived via ship or air-crew. lockdowns & isolation only work so far i guess (nz is another case)

good on 'em for making vaccination mandatory...hopefully this can keep the lockdown short as possible

we had planned to go over there this year (or was it last year ?) but getting out of oz is just too hard.

haha...believe me, we are talking about it. managing the seasons and dealing with the tides etc in the NW are the stumbling blocks so far

No falling off the perches yet Jim. You'll be visiting NC again..... no worries. Our birds are still perching nicely. And I see we are sideways up here. Covid taking it's toll !!!
