Re: Coronavirus Affectingly Boat Parts and Materials?

Here we go:

“ Unfortunately due to covid there is a shortage of coils to manufacture the a/c / heat pumps currently. We are building units but because of the coil shortage there is a backorder list we are trying to get caught up on, so it may be a while before the units are readily available. Sense we do not sell direct the best thing to do is get the units on order”

I knew it was going to happen. Ugh

It takes about a million hours and lots of logistics as it is, nevermind this.

PPE is mostly on backorder too

dramatic increase in acrylic sheet prices for windows ~30-40% plus shortage of thinner clear sheet due to demand for covid screening in public areas

Re: Coronavirus Affectingly Boat Parts and Materials?

I can only really comment on small outboard motors. My local Honda/Mercury/Suzuki dealer is unable to get any motor smaller than 50HP until the end of November. And even then he is only getting 2 20HP Hondas. He says its like that everywhere. And he is selling 250HP+ motors faster than anytime before.

As for parts, I haven't been having issues there.

Supply chain and availability is definitely apparent... depending on what you are looking for. Interesting to hear the outboard story... guess I will definitely work on making mine last! Local supply stores have very thin supplies of certain parts and ordering them is taking longer. If it has origins in China this will be a problem for sime time to come.

Are you sure? It's my understanding that Chinese factories were pretty much back to normal by late spring, though there may still be a backlog, downstream stocking issues, or distributors reluctant to place stock orders.

It Is hit or miss But it seems that the problem is more about the transportation end of the supply chain because as you stated factories over there are back online. Receiving goods here with smaller staff due to COVID illnesses and cutbacks is causing the crimp.

That’s what I’m seeing too.

It’s the US companies that are unable to fulfill orders.

Lots of shortages

Current wait time for tinted acrylic?

5-6 MONTHS

Heat pump components? They hope this year so they can start making reverse cycle units. But maybe not.

Just as I figured

Re: Coronavirus Affectingly Boat Parts and Materials?

I am seeing delays in everything. Car parts, bedding, horse supplies (to name a few) one or two day fulfillment is now 1-4 weeks.

I mean I guess I’m a dbag to complain but it hard building boats without materials and needing to buy your second or third choice on things rather that what you actually wanted.

Re: Coronavirus Affectingly Boat Parts and Materials?

I'm definitely buying things a bit differently than normal for my winter maintenance and projects. I'm buying much more stuff now, even if I won't need it for a few months. That way even if it takes me a couple weeks to get something, it's not a problem. So far, I haven't had much trouble though.

“China welcomes 2022 with worst COVID week since taming virus”

China has started 2022 with its biggest tally of local coronavirus cases for any seven-day period since subduing the country’s first epidemic nearly two years ago, despite an arsenal of some of the world’s toughest COVID-19 measures.

The National Health Commission reported on Saturday 175 new community infections with confirmed clinical symptoms for December 31, bringing the total number of local symptomatic cases in mainland China in the past week to 1,151.

The surge has been driven mostly by an outbreak in the northwestern industrial and tech hub of Xi’an*, a city of 13 million.

China has reported a handful of imported Omicron cases and at least one locally transmitted case.

Re: Coronavirus Affectingly Boat Parts and Materials?

I guess that’s good news. 1,151 cases in mainland China? That’s correct?

Here we are in the USA with 378,000 new cases a DAY currently. This time, I know plenty of people who caught it.

The holdup now will probably be in domestic items and trying to find someone in the company to sell you the stuff since everyone will be out sick.

Further to #28:

China says ‘positive changes’ as COVID cases ease in Xi’an
New COVID-19 cases in the locked-down Chinese city of Xi’an [pop. 13M] have fallen to their lowest in a week as residents face their eleventh day under strict home confinement.

China has followed a “zero-COVID” approach involving tight border restrictions and swift, targeted lockdowns since the virus first surfaced in a central city in late 2019.
However, this strategy has been put under pressure in recent weeks with a number of local outbreaks and cases remaining high.
China has not reported any deaths from COVID-19 since January 2021.
