Collecting plasma from recovered victims

In NYC at least, there is a blood drive on to collect blood from people who have recovered or were asymptomatic, etc. Apparently they can infuse plasma from those people into patients for the antibodies to help them recover.

The huge issue with testing of course means that many people who could help have no idea that they even had the disease. It's amazing that the US with all the people who love to claim how wonderful our health care system is, has been caught virtually flat footed.

This is political and has no place here.

Re: Collecting plasma from recovered victims

The technique is rather old fashioned so far as treatment goes. I remember that the Chinese health care workers who had recovered were donating blood for the plasma, for treatment, in hope that it would help make the cases less severe.

Sorry, but I do not know how successful this has been for treatment in China at this time.

It is something all nations could try, but if the Chinese were unsuccesssful with it, it is unlikely to work on other groups. Such an attempt would need both quick and easy testing, and some kind of double blind study to see to what extend such injections were successful against the corona virus' manifestations.

IIRC sars and mers or maybe ebola patients were treated with a blood product for recovered patents.
