Re: Australian quarantine equality?

Queensland has an election within the next couple of weeks so there's a fair chance border restrictions will ease after that.

Do Mexicans use "Colombians" or "damned gringos" when they need to express things in that manner?

I agree with not stopping in NSW, just want to keep the option of waiting in Eden for a window to cross Bass Strait.

A safety stop at anchor, no launching of dinghy or swimming, and declared to local police or health authority or whomever is in charge there should be fine. What are the additional Covid-19 rules that apply to stops in NSW?

Or they could be brain dead and not care that there’s 40 knots of SW in Bass Straight and force you to leave. That would suck.

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

Current rules are that it is OK to enter NSW from Qland with no restrictiions , but you can not enter NSW from Vic.( we shall ignore the border resident issue as it does not apply here)
Nothing to stop Olaf's friend from staying in NSW forever...

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

FWIW, as a Yank visitor to Eden we have been approached by both the local Customs officer and the police boat for "consultations". No issues, but they are aware of comings and goings in Twofold Bay. Have no info about their feelings about folks arriving from Qld (couldn't be worse than Yanks, could it?).

Meanwhile ... back in the State of Chaos and Confusion..

'Border Force refused to comment on the matter, directing The Age and Sydney Morning Herald to state authorities.

Spokeswomen for the Victorian government directed any queries about the matter to the DHHS.

A spokeswoman for Melbourne Airport said it had also been unable to reach the Victorian DHHS to understand the situation and were therefore unable to comment.

A Victoria Police spokesperson declined to comment, stating the force had no jurisdiction over travellers at the airport.

The NSW government, the federal government and Sydney Airport have been contacted for comment.'

and if you are wondering who DHHS is.....
'Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) confirmed the arrival of the group into Melbourne, but said its authorised officers did not have the authority to detain them.'

That's from here

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

We have a new issue! NZ and NSW and NT have opened a travel bubble, with Kiwis able to enter those two states with no quarantine. Those same Kiwis returning to NZ from those two states will need to go into managed isolation. So far so good, first flight of just over 200 flew yesterday and lots of photos of happy reunions.

Then we find out that up to 17 Kiwis snuck onto a flight from Sydney to Melbourne! Doesn’t say much for the security at the Sydney Airport. I wonder what this will do for the continuation and expansion of the bubble?

Travel bubble bursts: Up to 17 Kiwis detained in Melbourne

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

Not really a security issue at Sydney airport.... anyone can get on a 'plane to Melbourne from anywhere in Australia... no need to sneak....

What nobody thought would happen would be that anyone from anywhere would want to fly into Melbourne these days.

What is interesting is that they were noticed at Tulla... no need to show any ID when arriving there from Sydney or anywhere else domestic..

Probably spotted because a) they were the only passengers to arrive at the airport that day and b) they were talking funny...

Speaking of funny.... the realy funny thing is they could have hired a car and driven to Melbourne and no one would have known a thing.

I don't think they were being sneaky as the rules don't really cover this situation.

What will be very interesting is seeing how Desperate Dan handles it...

PS This is the sort of thing he is dealing with just now in Hotel California

Yep, it is too funny - fact is often stranger the fiction

I reckon no one told the Kiwis they couldn't / shouldn't come to Melbourne.

Hard to argue they are international arrivals after they cleared in at Sydney

Sounds like a mini version of Princess Ruby!

Just what I was thinking but this version won't be killing people... funny how that went so quiet after the bone pointers became the bone pointees.....

For them furriners not understanding the bone thing...

'Verb[edit]
point the bone (third-person singular simple present points the bone, present participle pointing the bone, simple past and past participle pointed the bone)

(intransitive, Australia, dated, in Aboriginal culture) To place a curse on another person by pointing a bone at that person; to curse by performing a magic ritual. quotations ▼
(Australia, by extension) To blame someone.'

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

I'm also curious about the future 'holiday plans' of this group of 17. Hard to imagine they all independently thought of the same idea on day 1 of the bubble. So maybe group travel??

How were they expecting to get out of the 'ring of steel'?

Most, or so I believe, of the kiwis coming to 'straya are on one way tickets.... not holidays.... re-uniting with extended families or whatever.... so your family in Melbourne... you go to Melbourne. I don't think it was a 'group of 17' in the sense you suggest... just 17 kiwis on the same - otherwise empty - plane.

I know one NZ couple who live - in normal times - 6 months a year in Qland where they own a home... they are heading for NT in a few weeks... 2 weeks touring then on to Qland.

Could be a few shearers in the mix as well.

Reasonable explanation

So this likely to be a guvmit to guvmit to guvmit umbrage (two states and one fed) until something else enters the news cycle!
