2021 Wooden Boat Festival in Tasmania Cancelled

This morning, Jim and I received confirmation that the 2021 WBF in Hobart will NOT be held. We are hoping for 2023.

There will be official notification via the news media in the near future.

Tragic,

The first couple were held in Fremantle and were a great day or two out. Lot of interesting ideas expressed in wood and metal. I particularly recall a beautifully executed steam launch.

The Shag Island Rendezvous and Hammo Race Week were cancelled but the Whitsunday Sailing Club Race Week has just been completed. Small field of contestants though.

Also heard, unofficially, that the Sydney to Hobart race is cancelled and the CYCA closed due to a Covid outbreak there... not sure about the latter.

I guess Jim and Ann will have to hang around in the deep south for another 2.5 years!

Luckily for them, it is a great place with or without the WBF or the SH race for that matter.

Jim

CYCA closed until 23 Aug due to a couple of positive cases amongst members.
No word yet on Sydney to Gold Coast (Iím guessing unlikely to proceed) or Sydney to Hobart.

The 2020 Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival this Sept. will be online, with boat tour videos, workshops, and sailing and cruising stories. If enough wooden boat salties but up content it might be a nice next best thing to the real festival.

Re: 2021 Wooden Boat Festival in Tasmania Cancelled

There are sailing club rumors that "something" will be happening in place of the WBF. The Living Boat Trust has something planned, and there is talk that the circumnavigation of Tasmania will take place, BUT, especially, the latter is only at the rumour stage as of now.

It's only mid August, maybe by summer everyone will be sick of the panic and things might get back to normal. We need the media to continue it's constant barrage of political criticism so the even those in charge are ready for a normalization. A couple of upset elections would not hurt either.
