Thoughts for making a 24v lifepo4 outboard battery as small as possible.

Apart from having your gas regular outboard, you might want a battery to run your up to 2 kw electric outboard for the short journeys.
Why is it 24v, because the rest of the boat is 24v. (If the boat was 48v then I would try to make this box 48v)
So it needs to be waterproof, light, have a light, a decent shunt style monitor, usb charging plug with A and C and also perhaps a car cig style socket.
The EVE 105ah cells weigh 16kg and with a pelican box it’s sort of briefcase like and only 17 kgs roughly.
There is 2 lights, 1 red, 1 white so you can choose
The usb sockets are 8-32v… the have an on button that shows the voltage… this is important for the car socket below.
The car socket is 24v, or 12v as it has an inside switch to choose …actually it runs all of these sockets on 12v or 24v as inside the case is a 24-12v 10a adapter.
It also has the traditional + - poles on the outside with a bolt in each pole so you can add plugs as required without cutting more holes.
So this keeps it light , adaptable, and waterproof and also smallish.

Not only does it run your outboard and show remaining capacity, but you can also use it for the evening beach party… hmm I’m not doing that rubbish..but for those of you that do…

I just went 36 volt and used the bike battery.

It is not water proof with all those open connections.

Wht happens with the '...the traditional + - poles on the outside with a bolt in each pole...', as the OP says. when you drop it in salt water?

I sort of thought that waterproof when motoring into waves and rain in the dinghy was the requirement.

So yes, used for diving or a floatation device probably will prove some shortcomings.

There is no open connections, each fitting has a cap.

Fotos would be actually nice and say more about words..

8x100AH cells is a "bit" overkill for a portable battery, 50AH cells would be enough and weight then below 10kg.

Re: Thoughts for making a 24v lifepo4 outboard battery as small as possible.

Its for a 2kw outboard so 50ah would be a bit on the light side.
Its a Pelican 1450 case so its really small and 17 kilos is light enough, the outboard is more than this.
Just like a briefcase, so easy carry in and out.

105ah Eve lifepo4 at 24v, BMV600 monitor, 150a breaker, on/off switch, 24-12v converter, 2 button style lights, cig lighter style socket, usb C and A charger, battery style poles.
all accessories are 32-8v.

It all just fits
5 reasonably waterproof holes so punching into seas in the rain with a bit of water sloshing around should work fine.

Probably the smallest 3kwH one in the world....if you don't mind me saying

Re: Thoughts for making a 24v lifepo4 outboard battery as small as possible.

I’ve had a think about it and I think I can shave another 150 grams by not having an on/off switch. It’s not needed as there is a breaker inside the box.

I was of course only joking before when I said it was probably the smallest in the world, but now after this change, I’m completely sure… definitely the smallest and lightest 3kwh one in the world.
