Ok, even better then! The line
threw me off, sorry.
All the best for Fiji! I might catch up with you guys there once I get going, too.

I have done 1 year 400 AH LI battery service. I only use solar MPPT's to charge and have disconnected alternators charging home battery. Also added electric outboard that charges from house battery and moved anchor winch onto house batteries as well. Very simple but effective setup.
Planned to add switch to be able to turn on alternator charging house batteries but I do not see that needed any longer. My 360 W solar does all the work 365 days a year. Amazing how much more power we have on board by just changing to lithium for additional 2 k AUD investment.
We had couple overniters and it was amazing feeling not having to turn on engines to charge.
thanks and have nice sailing

Glad to hear, all is going well!
Never noticed that negative sentiment, Lagooners are in the majority among the production cat owners, you know, ;-) we are many...

Some more progress on the programming og the CCGX / Venus on my RaspberryPi...
Now data from REC BMS on screen ;-)

How did you get this extra data to show up? All I see on my CCGX is the % of the battery, no amp hours, current rating, watt hours.
Also for some reason the MultiPlus doesn't respect the BMS charge limits, but the MPPT does...
I'm using an Orion Jr. with CANBUS, which probably is the same mechanism that REC uses?

Custom programming...
The software is partly open source and can run on various devices.
I have modified the UI to get the data I wanted, added support for environment sensors (1wire, I2C bus temp. Humidity, air pressure) and wrote a driver for the REC ABMS. It is not connected by can, but by the serial RS485 interface (same as used for configuring the BMS) .
And added a touch switch, to remote control the inverter from the overview page....

I see, do you mind sharing a diff of what you changed in Venus? I haven't dabbled in that codebase much yet.
Also I gather that you run this in your rPi? Which display do you use? I'm using an actual CCGX and have been having a hard time getting it setup with networking. It's on the network alright but refuses SSH access despite having enabled it, and reports DNS error in dialing to VRM, despite DNS working just fine on the network (and Venus being able to pull firmware updates)...

I use a 7" touch screen hdmi / usb display 1024x600 from Amazon, I also had a 13" usb powered hdmi full hd touch screen on it, it workex out of the box., the 7" needed a configuration change.
I can do a diff, but it is still work in progress, also added some libraries by copy & paste from raspbean for the raspy interfaces i2c and 1wire and installed the piserial python stuff, played around with other mysql and python3, all not included in the image from victron.
I can copy you the python and qml scripts when they are ready and tested (at the moment there are some quick hard coded fixes that need attention first when running on other environments, like adapter discovery by name for the REC FDDI Adapter and exclusion of it to the regular Victron processing). I am still on the beginning of the modifications. I want to add a local logging database and some history charts for offline use, some pages for temperatures of the fridges, tank sensors and weather data history (pressure, humidity and temperature) plus wireless remote sensor support.
Regarding the connection issues, not sure if the original unit has LAN and WiFi, but on the raspi I had the same issue, because they add the default route to the LAN port when LAN and WLAN are both connected, and LAN goes to Raynet HS isolated boat network without internet access. You can configure the IP parameters manually to prevent this from happening.

Sounds good! Which DB did you have in mind for your timeseries? I've been thinking of doing something similar.

cnb, can electonic imbecile like me make use of rasberryPi ? I do know software programming though and can pick up any language or whatever. If yes, where would I start ?
I would love to use this as chartplotter, AP, Victron interface, and whatever else is possible and realistic.

Since people are referencing amp hours. We have 225 amp/hr on our 34' cat with small efficient fridge and separate deep freezer. Have 380 watts of solar.
Was going to get Lithium, but at full retail $300 buys 2 Trojan T105s

so about 110regularly useable ah Then but the solar is carrying you all day .
I could get you on Lfp for the cost of those t105's and cut the weight by 60% .
With a good 3x lifespan ( minimum )
Is your charge controller adjustable?

But like a $1000 to save 50 pounds and not on a permanent basis? In port we use around 50-60 a/hr in 24 hours. At sea it's more like the 110 and sometimes panels are shaded by sails.
By noon on a sunny day can make 12-15 gallons of water in the afternoon and charge tablets, phones, etc.
People don't need more expensive Chinese batteries. They need less **** using power (mostly all Chinese)

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...
I'm open to the possibilities, but it seems like most the stuff being pedaled has unknown quality. I have seen some system built from Nissan Leaf batteries or Chevy volt batteries. Again, I'm just a caveman when it comes to this. My gel 6v were 8 years old and still doing decent, but I replaced as a preventive measure in January as was planning to cross Pacific this year. The Trojans are lighter than the gels
