Lithium Ion 18650B (Tesla) Testing

Are these results for cycles and depth of discharge/charge be useful for LiFePo4 Batteries?

Let’s talk about the Panasonic NCR18650B | EV And More

Look at the paragraph:
Now let’s look at the cycling chart. (Cycle Life characteristics)
and

How temperature affects discharge

Our use is not as dramatic or great.

Consider the healthy discussion we've been having about how to treat LiFePo4

Those 18650 cells are a nickel-cobalt chemistry.

Model S vs Model 3 vs home storage batteries, all different chemistries.

None related to LFP

Yes, Johnct, I know that, but they exhibit some of the characteristics that you always refer to about.

"Are these results for cycles and depth of discharge/charge be useful for LiFePo4 Batteries?"

I guess your answer is "No, because they different chemistries"

Exactly. Radically different wrt specifics.

Generalities may be similar, e.g. higher DoD shortens lifespan, but that's true for every batt afaik

Why not Tesla S packs

Compact 55lb 5.2-5.3 kilowatthr, use about 80% of the energy same FLA 400-500
27" x 11.5" x 3.5" Module has 444 cells

PHASE 3 Inverter

Nonetheless he does a good job explaining & documenting his design and I can follow it.

Boats likely won't be limited to LFP. For instance Torqeedo is already marketing BMW I series battery packs for the marine market.

As time goes on I expect more EV batteries will be recycled into other things.

Re: Lithium Ion 18650B (Tesla) Testing

I agree, more thermally-aggressive chemistries will make their way onto boats over time, as the safety data accumulates and as productized (protected) offerings become commonplace. They are where most of the industry is focused, and the cost and performance differences will likely outweigh the additional risks for most applications. In time...
