li-ion Battery Fire

In February a Perth warehouse was set on fire by a li-ion battery.
The DFES Incident Report states,

“FIO: Fire has started due to the failure of a li-ion battery, to many batteries in the area of origin to identify the individual battery. “

The Batteries from what we can gather were being stored (not in use). 18650 cells used in batteries . A second report state that fire temperature were over 660º Celsius.

Re: li-ion Battery Fire

So? What chemistry were those metal cased cylindrical 18650 "li-ion" cells.

I'd bet they were not the LiFePO4 used on boats. Almost certainly the less safe LCO, NCA, or NMC cells.

Re: li-ion Battery Fire

Anyone considering using anything other than LFP/LYP cells or LTO chemistry cells should read these warnings and think seriously about the choice they made.
The really scary thing is the drop in batteries, no one can be absolutely sure just what cells are in there.
Check this post out regarding a very well known drop in battery "manufacturer" in very loose terms ..... https://www.caravanersforum.com/view...aefa8fabd9e2c0 about 8 posts down you get to see just what is inside one of these drop in batteries .... basically an electric bike battery ....

There is another thread on the same forum claiming these batteries have a continuousdischarge capacity of 250 amps and peak of 500 amps .... can you imagine drawing that sort of current from that pushbike battery and it not catching fire?

A free VPN service like windscribe can get you around all those pesky (and since a simple VPN circumvents them, utterly pointless) geo blocks.

Correction - "some of those blocks"

ProtonVPN gave me the same message with a US server and the free version didn't have an Aus or NZ server.
And according to their website, Windscribe's free version doesn't have Aus or NZ servers either.

Try using the Opera browser [the best all-around browser]. It has a simple one click on/off VPN button [on the address bar]. A dropdown menu allows you to select a server IP presence from several worldwide regions, NA, Euro, Asia...; the actual servers selected rotate among various countries, but I don't think that you can choose which.
I know that they change IPs often, doing an ipcheck will return various places [eg-- select a European IP, you'll be 'in' France a while, then Sweden, Austria, NL, etc.].

I also use the ProtonVPN, and ProtonMail, since they were in beta, great service.

In running IP speedtests the ProtonVPN rarely adds any noticeable speed delay. However, delays with the Opera browser VPN vary greatly, from a few percent of average, to 90%+ [which delay, if you already have a very fast connection, won't even be noticeable for most activities].
