Is there a market for used LiFePO4 cells?

With a major cruise coming up in the next year or few I am thinking of replacing my house bank from Julia Yu.

The current bank is qty 4 - 700 AH Thundersky/winston cells that were likely used balqon truck cells. The bank delivers 500 ah from the weakest cell which tells us that the the other cells are stronger.

If I were to buy 4 new cells I would be able to figure out what the capacity is on each cell.

The question is - is there a market for used cells with know capacities and what would be the likely selling price.

If I do go through and buy the 4 cells I would be happy to turn it into a "group" buy with delivery to Portland Oregon.

I personally would not pay more than 20% of the new price.

But eBay auctions regularly go for as much as I think new cells should go for.

We bought our 180ah CALB batteries used. They came out of a electric vehicle. I get about 350+ah out of the 540ah it's rated for. I imagine I'll get that for a lot of years. We just dont require as much C as a vehicle does so we can eek more out if I wanted to but that's pretty good for us.

So we have a low estimate of 20%... And as noted eBay tends to go crazy high at times.

I agree with SailRedemption that these cells will give 500 AH for years.

Interesting strategy. How many have you bought all together, new or used?

I would never think of buying use critical equipment for any serious cruise. The consiqunce of battery failure is far to high. Why not get top quality new wet cells, much cheaper than use lithium. If you really need lithium performance you need new ones to garentee you get it but most people don't.

Probably for the same reason some people don't buy a top quality new bicycle instead of a reasonably nice used car.

Learn what you're on about with a smaller cheaper pack first.

Increments of 4 cells is required just to get to 12V.

Thanks for the uninvited put down.

I have 2 traction banks and a house bank of 700ahr. Thunder sky’s
For the last 3 years.
May I politely suggest you stop trolling this forum until you have actual hands on experience with LiFePo4 cells.

My apologies. So you are looking to replace 2-4 cells that are failing from an existing bank?

After looking over several hundred past eBay auctions for used LFP cells, many past what I consider EoL

I reckon you could get well over $1400 maybe over $1800 for your 4S bank, assuming the seller handle has good rating history, ideally at at least a decent volume.

If so, start the auction at $950 and put a BIN price of $2200.

Sold as a single 4S/12V unit, advertised as tested to supply over 450Ah@12V, at a 200A rate or less, between Full and 3Vpc. Adjust as you see fit, but best to underestimate the capacity side in case their gear is inaccurate.

Also if possible publish a tested max discharge rate, as many buyers are DIY propulsion EV types.

Plus of course they pay actual shipping costs, easier sale if you have that lined up ready to quote for their zip code, CONUS only.

BMS need not be included, but turnkey as much as possible at least wrt connectors makes for an easier sale.

They are of course free to verify upon delivery, so guaranteeing the capacity for say two weeks will sweeten the deal, get a higher price auction result.

Of course specify past that point "as is, no returns".

Note that allowing free local pickup, require a non-refundable deposit, they pay cash on the balance, will eliminate the eBay / PayPal NQAMBG.

But don't restrict to that or you might as well sell on CL.

Also, do not try to bypass eBay taking their cut if you want to be able to continue to sell. Ask them to give you a 100% positive review once the two weeks has passed, and reciprocate for their rating as buyer.

Hope this helps, and I realize this is irrelevant, but while the above pricing may be "the market",

personally I couldn't sleep at night taking such advantage of know-nothing noobs.

Re: Is there a market for used LiFePO4 cells?

Hi, has anyone ordered Winston cells through Julia Yu from Authorized sales representative of Thunder Sky Winston Battery Limited $1 per Ah seems like a good deal, if the goods arrive and is top quality of course...
