So, What I proposed is not ridiculous?
As I understand it, there is inrush and start high current.
As in msec "Inrush" 10x run, and "start" sec's 2/3x run. Capacitor charge etc.

Use a slow 500A fuse, they are cheap compared to electronic overkill.
