Privilege 42 /435

Ok so the never ending search for the perfect compromise in our retirement boat, and before I hear just do it, buy it, and get out “there,” I am very close. So we are narrowing down our list and selling off our stuff (well I have mentioned to my wife we need to sell our stuff... hmm her stuff.) We have made trips to boat shows, summer charters, new boat – old boat, piles of magazines, etc. in the search for the perfect* boat. We have begun researching the Privilege 42,which led us to the 435. So I am looking for opinions from those of you who have sailed, owned, or have an opinion on either of these boats. Thanks in advance for the input-

My first sail on a cruising cat was Privilege 435 hull # 1. Brought it down from Annapolis to Fort Lauderdale. We rode a cold front all the way down, and surfed down waves doing up to 16 knots. She was a beautiful boat and handled flawlessly. Like most cats I've been on, the autohelm drove almost the entire way. Very nice boat.

lived aboard a 42 for 2 years. a heavy boat that is rock solid. Sailing speed is 8 knts in winds 15+. The only drawback is that the helms are unprotected

Owned a 435 for the last 7 years. 5 years in bareboat charter and now nearly two years liveaboard. 20% of the way into a circumnavigation.

All Privileges are good, solid, boats that will probably outlast you. 435s are extremely popular world cruisers and command - at the moment - a high price on the used market.

Happy to tell you more either here or privately.
