Privilege 39 Wiring / Rigging ?

I am in great need of a wiring diagram for the Priviledge 39 cat (93-ish). many switches on the pannel are not clearly labeled. There are a ton of breakers that are numbered but I have no idea what connects to what. Our 110v system has 5 breakers, with only a single outlet in the galley. Through trial and error I've found #1 was the water heater, #2 charger, #3 galley outlet. Behind the galley outlet i found another connection box labled microwave so that must be 4 or 5. The last one is a mystery. On the 12v side I found breaker #21 was connected to an old euro style 12v connecter in the galley and the 6th switch down on the pumps pannel. The cabin lights and fans work without any switches on on the main pannel. Any clues/assistance with a wiring diagram would be most appreciated.

I also need to replace some running rigging (jib sheets, topping lift, jib halyard, mainsheet, outhaul, 1st & 2nd reefing lines...) but have no specifications as to line length/diameter. Mainsheet looks to be about 70ft of 1/2". Jib sheets are oversize for the lewmar 48st's and about 45" long each. I'm guessing at about 120ft for the jib halyard and a bit less for the topping lift (also 1/2"). The length of the reefing lines is a mystery (one was broken with a section totally missing). So again any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is to contact Didier at Catamaran Charters in Nandi on Tortola. They used to be the Jeantot Marine/Privilege rep in the U.S. and are the most knowledgeable on this boat. I have a 1993 P43 pourchased in later 1994 that came with an owner's manual but without wiring diagrams and he specific rigging details you are seeking. I got a French-English dictionary and eventually developed my own specs.

I have the factory Privilege 39 manual, which has some diagrams in it, but not listing specific circuits for the most part - regardless, you'll find the wiring and circuits are very different than when the boat was delivered ~16 years ago.

Much of our DC wiring has numbered tags on the wires - I'm fairly certain this is factory, as I've found them inside every junction box I've opened, but it's possible a previous owner got bored one day and traced out every wire. I found a sheet of paper where a previous owner had chased down a bunch of circuits and figured out which breakers and switches they were on - which has helped a bunch.

On our boat, the 6th switch down on 'pumps' is the propane sniffer/solenoid (not an original item). The original French label was "Prise 12V Inter".

Circuit #21 was traced out as "Cockpit 12V" by previous owner. I don't know if this goes to the outlet at the helm, or the outlet next to the salon door (or both, or for that matter, neither).

Our lighting and fans are likewise not on the switch panel, but they are on circuits/breakers 4-14).

On the AC side, it's all going to depend on who converted the boat over from 220V to 110V - on our boat it's easy to tell, as the AC was run with all fresh wiring of a different form than the original french wiring. We've got a master breaker in the port engine room, then at the nav station we've got 5 circuits plus a master (master, nav station, starboard, fridge, port, and water heater). The original AC breakers in the wiring cabinet are not used at all on our boat. From the factory (according to the original diagrams), there were only 2 AC plugs on the whole boat, both in the galley - however our boat had another one inside the wiring closet. From the sounds of it, your 110V retrofit may be with the original wiring.

The original 220VAC system shows a circuit-breaker in the port engine room at the shore connection, then at the nav station it fans out into 3 circuits - water heater, charger, and plugs (both on the same circuit). It also shows a ground plate connection amidships in the port hull. We have 4 original AC breakers (again, unused now).

I found it interesting you found a box in the AC wiring marked "Microwave". We've got the same thing, and it's puzzled me because there was never a microwave anywhere close to that box unless it was inside a closed cabinet!

When I replaced my jib sheets I made them 50' each - a bit longer than original. I can't remember exactly what size line it was - a bit smaller than what was there, but the new stuff flows better on the winches and still fits in the self-tailers fine. Haven't replaced any other running rigging yet to be able to help you out there.

There's a couple of other Privilege 39 owners on here... I'm sure they'll jump in with what they have to add!

We purchased our 1993 Privilege 39 from the factory, and to this day, I can't tell which circuit breakers serve which circuit. In fifteen years of ownership, and in a circumnavigation, I have had circuit breakers flip less than a dozen times. They did an excellent job wiring my Privilege 39, and it has been trouble free as far as the electrical system is concerned.

If I had problems with the electrical system, I would have gone to the trouble of labeling each of the numbered breakers. Fortunately, my problems were few.

I am still using the original halyards and topping lift on Exit Only that were supplied by the manufacturer. They were very abrasion resistant, although they are a bit stiff after all of these years. They are also stained red from the dust of the Red Sea. I am still using the original reefing lines which appear to be in good shape. Unfortunately, I can't tell you their length.

I have replaced the genoa sheets several times because of chafe against the cabin top. I don't know their length, but I just matched the length with what came on the boat originally.

Sorry the list got messed up but the numbers are right some of them are strange like #30 TV and two autopilots????now I have a windless circuit and a autopilot circuit in the engine rooms and I have not yet tested the breakers for these. but most of the other ones are right on...I hope this helps...We have 4 ac breakers water heater,battery charger, 110v outlet 1 in the salon and the other in galley.
The other strange thing I found is in the head cabinets in each one there is an AC line that is just dead ended this is my # 4 breaker That one is shut down I dont know what the hell they are for other than disaster.....

My wiring diagram---Take that one off, see what doesn't work, label wire with a piece of 1 inch masking tape and go to the next one. Slow but effective!

After over twenty years, I have replaced 95% of the wire on the boat. I write with a Sharpee on the wire itself what the wire is for and where it goes with a little arrow pointing that way. I also take white electrical tape and create little flags that wrap around the wire and then label the flags with a Sharpee. Doing this helps quite a bit.
