The Gull Striker and it's massive associated
stainless steel wire provide all the support needed for the crossbeam and forward end of the middle
hull (center nacelle). The Gull Striker is a powerful jumper strut that functions similar to the spreaders on the
mast supporting the
mast and keeping it in alignment.
In 50,000 miles of sailing during our
circumnavigation, I never had any issues with the Gull Striker, associated
stainless steel wire, or front end of the center nacelle. It is built like a tank up there. The Privilege 39 is overbuilt by several magnitudes of strength.
Over the years I have never seen a Privilege 39 that had issues in this area.
The Privilege requires
maintenance like any other
catamaran, but it is overbuilt which creates a large
safety margin in terms of structure.
The only time I had any structural concerns was in the
Indian Ocean sailing through tsunami debris after the global tsunami, and I placed oars down the front of the bows to protect them because there are giant trees floating in the
water that were partially submerged along their length.
