What Should I Pay - Asking v Paying Price

Greetings all,
I have been looking at Catamarans 30' - 38' for a while, and there seems to be quite a variance in asking prices.
I have seen one (nice looking) sold for around K$90, and a similar (same make but older) asking K$130.
Are these prices speculators and I make a ridiculous offer, then negotiate, or do I need to get close to the asking price?
I know each boat is very different, but as a general rule?

Cheers, and thank you for any input.
Butso.

There is no rule that will work in every case. Some boats are over priced, others are under priced. Some owners will jump at any offer, some won't sell even if you offer the asking price.

Try to find similar boats and look at how the prices vary. If in doubt make the first offer low (but be polite about it so there is room to make an updated offer if not accepted). If you go low, you can always raise the price but if they accept, it's a lot tougher to go down further.

Sorry, I didn't get back here as planned.
Yes, we bought the Pescott Summerhaven 10.6we were looking at after getting a survey done and having as few repairs done.
Made an offer which was accepted, found a motley crew and brought her to Sydney over Christmas/New Year.
Sailed nicely down the coast without drama, so we are now learning the ins and outs and setting her up for extensive cruising in 2020.
