Volvo Penta MD1B wanted.

G'day fellow members and sailors alike!

My yacht is a 1977 Clansman 30. The very old and somewhat tired Volvo Penta MD1B currently in it will be replaced with an electrical propulsion system. Until that happens in 4 years from now, I need to keep the old diesel going and have decided that a "donor" engine will be required to do that.

What I'm looking for is a Volvo Penta MD1B, with or without the gearbox. Ideally, an engine in running condition would be great but as long as the crank spins freely and there is no obvious external damage, then I am interested.

I am based on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland so a locally sourced engine is best but naturally, I'm open to shipping from anywhere in Australia for the right engine.

Hello Adrian, I have no idea if it will help but I added your thread over at the Volvo engines social group. I hope you can find an engine. Your boat is very similar to mine and you might consider the outboard option like I have. My boat was not built for an inboard. The engine mount/hoist on mine works well, I can lift the engine up in a few seconds, but I freely concede it is unattractive and puts a lot of weight aft that has to be balanced out.
