New second hand boat

Hello fellow Oceania's. Put deposit on a boat (finally) and it is far from a liveaboard and that is deliberate. I will be taking delivery in about 2 weeks. I have been on the market for a 'weekender' which has a head and shower but this boat does not have shower which is not an issue. Not because i am a dirty pig, but my son can install a hot shower on the stern deck easily...but maybe I am a dirty pig !!.
I went this way with the boat as an interim step towards a liveaboard. I can do over night fishing for Gummy’s in Port Phillip Bay (PPB) of which I have caught so many but just during the day. Night time is far better (IMO) and OMG…they taste nice. I went this way because I do not need to downsize and sell my 5 acre property to buy a nice liveaboard which is exactly what is going to happen but now I have a “toe in the water”. I will put pictures up when I get it home. Please don’t ask me what brand it is until I take possession of it as I do not want people express opinions at this point in time. American web sites have people who swear by them and those who are the opposite Cheers my ‘on line friends’. Darren

Re: New second hand boat

Thanks for the words. I was sitting here in Australia where you eventually get sick of chasing kangaroos and drinking heaps of beer (bull ****!), the boat I just purchased has a closed cooling system with coolant and I began to wonder what is better compared to a raw water cooling system. After many hours on the internet and trying to decipher the "hidden agenda" reviews to the truth is hard so what does Batman do...he consults the brains trust because no where on the internet has the collective and honest info than this site and i know that I am preaching to the converted here. I guess a subset question is do closed systems overheat in hot whether and are the brands of coolant that are better than others. I hope not a silly question but I am a little bit excited about my new purchase. Thank you

Re: New second hand boat

See...this just shows how 'not smart' I am. I write down the questions I wanted to get answers and put up in previous post here BUT did not check what I wrote down before I posted. Just to put in some perspective...I lost count of times I kept a shopping list as I noticed I needed something then go to the supermarket WITH THE SHOPPING list...and don't look at it until I get home and realise I bloody forgot something !!! I promise...not all Australians are like this so I am a very "special" person. Question. Can I run a closed system engine out of water or am I able to flush the leg properly some other way. Thanks again

What is going on. I looked up marine insurance and the only info I gave them relative to the boat was that it was 24 foot, 2007 and I wanted comprehensive insurance and Youi saif "we can not provide insurance for this boat. Why not is my question. Folling that, who do my Australian friends recommend

Roo,
I recommend putting different questions into different threads otherwise it will get too confusing.

Sorta. You do need to provide cooling water. That's not really "flushing" water; instead it's about keeping the coolant temperature within acceptable range.

The short version is that there are often jacketed systems -- heat exchanger, engine oil cooler, gear oil cooler, aftercooler, etc. -- where coolant or oil or air are running through their own tubes... and those tubes are surrounded by the constantly-changing sea water you're pumping through.

The "how" will depend on your boat, engines, inlets, etc.

"Flushing" would likely use the same water path, but that's more about removing salt and other contaminants from the raw water cooling system... after use.

Re: New second hand boat

Hello "floating friends". I said in late Feb that I would be picking up the boat in "two weeks" OMG, what a drama it has been but I paid for an incredibly good Surveyor and he concluded that the boat was exceptionally good. It was well worth the $650 for the surveyor with out doubt for me. He only picked up cosmetic issues which in themselves were time consuming for the boat yard to correct which he did without question (because the owner was paying for it). Clearly the 2 weeks have elapsed BUT...Picking it up this Tuesday and my son and I are very excited to say the least. Will send a couple of pics when I bring it home perhaps not that anyone will be interested but I still will. i want to keep being active on this site and on the very rare chance i can be of even 1 percent of the help to someone else in accord with the amazing help I have received from you all, I will feel very good. Thank you all very very much. Darren

Re: New second hand boat

Why hello my "Oceanic" friends.. I have finally worked out how to get some photos of the new boat on to my computer but I am buggered if I can work out how to load them up here as I promised. If some one can advise that would be appreciated. Thank you. Darren

Re: New second hand boat

There are more photos but this should give you the idea. The engine is a Mercruiser (Cummins) turbo diesel- 2.8 4 cylinder which has done only 115 hours. It is only 200hp but I wanted this so that the fuel consumption would be economical. despite the internet saying excessive speeds, it does 28 knots WOT but I like the cruise at 20 knots. The cummins is a sweet engine. Apparently the boat is constructed of straight fiberglass without timber and it weighs 3300 kgs with 200 litres of diesel. I can tow it with my Ford Ranger but i think I will need to buy a RAM 1500 once I sell my property as I am told they can tow 4500. If anyone has any other suggestions on vehicle, please feel free to tell me. The boat rides like a dream. It is a Trophy 2359 2008 year. The low klms are because the poor previous owner passed away and his daughter just left it in the garage. The absolutely awesome place I purchased from on consignment was Sawleys Auto and Marine in in Kadina Sth Australia (Thomas) did absolutely EVERYTHING to get the boat particularly the engine up to tip top condition. Thanks. Darren
