Mooring in Pittwater
Just buying a Beneteau 50 in Sydney and looking for a mooring in Pittwater whilst we get ourselves setup to head north. Getting a number of "Sorry we are full" or marina berths that we don't want the expense of. Any ideas where we might go for July as we are covered for June.

You may need to try Sydney Harbour or Port Hacking.

Re: Mooring in Pittwater
Hello, PA,
And, welcome aboard CF.
Pittwater is very different from Sydney. There are a few moorings available, longish term there. We found emergency accomodation in Lovett Bay when no one else had anything. I suggest you ask around and see what's available.
Depending on your boats air draft and water draft and your desires, you may be able to find something. Not knowing what you want, it's hard to say how far afield you may need to look; however there's Lake Maquarie, Newcastle, and Port Stephens, all to the north of you, with various options.
Hope you find what you want.
Ann

Re: Mooring in Pittwater
Might be worth trying Brooklyn, or else Booker Bay in the entrance to Brisbane Water.
You may have draft issues getting into Brisbane Water.

Re: Mooring in Pittwater
Yes we just left Pittwater and have also found that moorings for short term lease are an issue. There are quite a number of courtesymoorings and we stayed 3 days on one and had no issues so if you can move around that might be an option. There are heaps of empty moorings in Pittwater but obviously they belong to someone and if you wamt to go ashore it might not be a good option to just pick one up.

Re: Mooring in Pittwater
If Waterways comes around and finds an unauthorized boat on a private mooring, you will (at the very least) be told to move on. If someone wants to let you use their mooring, you should offer to pay for their application to Waterways to allow you to use their mooring. There is a way to do it, but it is cumbersome.

Re: Mooring in Pittwater
If you need to anchor temporarily while you arrange a mooring, Morning Bay is a very good anchorage. It has very good protection and always sufficient room. There are two public moorings on the south side just as you enter the bay which allow a stay of 24 hours. I’m currently anchored in Morning Bay waiting to head north up the coast later this week.
I think I can get you the name of a local who rents moorings around Scotland Island when I go over to the island tomorrow.

Thanks, PA, that's good to know there's some available.
