Traveling up the US East Coast

Once you get to Maine, The cruising guide to the Maine coast is invaluable. If you get to Penobscot Bay (some of the best of the best of Maine cruising) many cruisers head to Camden because it's well known. Head to Rockland instead. Lot's of services and large harbor. Don't plan on spending much time there however as it is just a gateway to the islands. I have cruised these waters for 35 years and each year find a new harbor in which to spend the night. Pulpit, Perry Creek, Merchant Row, Castine, Buck's Harbor, Blue Hill Bay and Mount Desert are all easily accessed. Stay on the downcurrent side of any lobster pot and you'll do all right.

Look us up when you get to Maine and we'll have a beer over a chart.

If you cruise up the east coast and don't spend some time exploring the Chesapeake Bay, Long Island Sound, Narragansett Bay, Buzzards Bay or Boston Harbor you would be cheating yourself. Hurricane season begins to taper off in late September, so you should have plenty of time to explore these areas. I suggest that you create another series of threads asking for specific advice on the bay/sound that you build into your plans.

Why stop in Maine. It gets even nicer in the Canadian Maritimes. I kid you not. The further north the more enjoyable although it is all nice.

I agree entirely. As a suggestion you should consider marathoning it to Halifax and then working your way south. That is what we did many years ago, from the Caribbean to Halifax and then worked our way south to be in Annapolis for the boat show in October. July 1 is Canada Day - their official start of summer and they put on quite a show in Halifax.
