Importing a EU made sail boat to Canada

I consider buying a Beneteau in the 40 feet range in Spain; initially planning to enjoy cruising in Europe for a couple of years. Eventually we would move back to Canada.
Would anyone know whether the EU Recreational Craft Directive would be accepted by Canadian authorities to secure registration. If not, what standard would be required. Would it be an expensive exercise?
