Brief background; currently living in Leipzig. Never sailed before, keen on
learning. I’ve been wanting to join a sailing club to learn the ropes a bit and get to know the local sailing community, but haven’t had the opportunity to do so just yet due to Covid and so on. In the mean time, we’ve been thinking of moving up to Hamburg (or rather one of the neighboring towns) for various reasons, but mostly job prospects. If we move up, I am still keen on joining a sailing club, though I’m not sure what it’s like up north whether directly on the Elbe, the North or
Baltic Sea coast. This also means that our proximity to a body of
water may be of some importance because I’m unsure how convenient it would be to have to have a long commute to scratch my sailing itch. What’s the sailing community like in Hamburg or Lübeck for example?
I was by the Elbe this morning and it looked like rather challenging and stressful conditions to sail with the
current, the
commercial traffic and tides (at least today) - especially for beginners, which we would be. I’m keen to know what sailing up there is like and/or if I could pick your brains about the area in general (if you live(d) in the area).
