ReCAAP annual report shows 17% increase in piracy incidents in SEAsia - 2 page summary attached

of course nearly all involve small coastal or regional shipping however it's alarming and only a matter of time before they start picking on passing yachts

The incidents to anchored bulk carriers in the Singapore Strait between Singapore and Batam made it to local news in 2018-19 as highly unusual. These have dropped and I've not heard further.

. I was there from August 2013 until January 2017 and travelled extensively around a lot of the Philippines. But piracy got worse and worse so we quit, returned to Singapore and shipped the boat to Turkey!
I think/know matters have improved somewhat, but there is still some danger, mostly in Sulu ares
