I had such bad experienced trying to rent trucks. Tires so far off balance that I was bouncing out the seat, front shocks gone. Had pain in my kidneys for the next 3 months and a kidney stone not long after.....
If I didnt have a choice and had to go that
route, I would try to rent one of the new transit vans from Uhaul, something that is likely to be in better mechanical shape and then pack my stuff in there. If you can use a tow dolly to haul your car (non awd) then that keeps it all with the same company. Their box trucks suck gas and the charge per mile is pretty high. And most of those trucks are very long in the tooth at this stage (at least here in MI)...
