Re: Leaving SA
Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Alice.
Leaving S.A. involves emigration.
Immigration applies to the Countries you enter.

Re: Leaving SA
Thank you for the welcome greetings!
Im sure I need to do immigration, I just don't know how to do it, because I've never left a country by boat . What kind of documents do I need , just my passaport or the boats documents as well ?
Thank you so much .

you will need the yachts registration certificate
3 crew lists
and all the passports
also if sa registered i belive the skippers certificate of competence and radio licence.
you then go to the port captain to start the process of clearance, and pay any dues.
he will direct you to customs and immigration who will stamp you out and issue a clearance certificate for your next port.
once you have the clearance certificate you have 72 hours to leave,or you must clear back in if you have not left after the 72 hr period
you will also need to call on ch 16 port control when leaving for permission
i believe the customs also do an inspection of the vessel in sa for drugs, weapons and explosives etc.so you need to start the process the day before you intend to leave,in office hours or overtime charges may apply

Sorry, only now I've realized I've didn't pay attention to Emigration to Immigration. I've misused the word . Wanted to say emigration not immigration.
Best regards ,
Alice

if looking for the" immigration dept" in sa they are part of the "department of internal affaires"
there is no emigration department in the government!

do you mean durban?
when sailing in sa waters, even if not leaving the country you have to do a "coastal clearance" between each harbour
from your final port in sa you do an "international outward clearance"
this can be done at any of the main ports in sa

Re: Leaving SA
Alice, this is a bit of an odd request because normally the captain of the boat handles the paperwork for the vessel and crew. Why is it not being done that way?

it maybe that the skipper is not good with english, and as the process can be a bit complicated in sa,the skipper has asked his english speaking crew to find out for him,as a translator

Re: Leaving SA
Everything as per Atholl's post No. 4. Except that the yacht captain/skipper must personally report together with all his crew.
If its a South African registered vessel;
1. The captain/skipper/owner might require Form NEP from his bank (this is where the Reserve Bank notes the value of the yacht and clears it to leave the country). This can take up to 2 weeks to get.
2. The captain/skipper also needs to submit your flight plan to SA Sailing - who will issue a authorization to leave the country. Done by email.
3. The vessel needs to be SAMSA registered - Category A with a valid Certificate of Fitness.
