Brazil to Cape Verde and to Spain

Hi all,
has anybody sailed from Eastern Brazil ( Fortaleza ) to Cape Verde and then up to Spain??

Just wondering about safety and seas on the coast of Africa.

Its not the general way because you are going against the wind and current. But thats not to say it can't be done.

I would love to do that side of Africa and also the Cameroon/Gabon area.
Occasionally there have been articles in Cruising World about people doing parts of it.

Some areas (Senegal???) have a good (but dirty commercial) port and want tourists.... but then that may be the country in a new civil war / revolution / incursion / famin / Gihad etc etc etc

I don't remember anyone from this forum having gone there recently.

Boats going up from Brazil normally try to make northing / easting but often end up in the Azores (trying for, but missing the CV and Canaries), where from they continue on to Spain or whatever.

But a well sailing, well sailed boat can do whatever you ask her to do. I would try from Recife or thereabouts. Fortaleza is a bit to the West and the Guyana current will be taking you even further W untill you clear it and get some of the counter-current to your help (mind the counter current is seasonal and weak - quite unlike the Guyana thing).

My friends sailed this passage 2 years ago - they were forced onto the Azores route (a heavy steel boat).
