Best anchorages near la paz, mexico

I'm chartering a Cat out of Marina Baja Costa in July. We arrive late afternoon/early evening and I'm looking for advice on where to anchor close by so we can get out of the marina. I'm anchoring in Balandra Bay on the way back in so looking for other options. Caleta Lobos looks nice, but most of it is restricted for anchoring. Any other ideas? thanks

There are several very pleasant spots on that giant island just north of there...Espiritu Santo?
Los Frailes, if the wind is right, is amazing, though somewhat further away.

Lobos: You can still anchor in the Northwest part, including behind the island (with the best Corumel protection).

Even closer: Bahia Falsa

Ballandra is almost entirely closed to anchoring (>25' boat length)

IF the weather forecast (now there's a problem: lack of good forecasts) contains no hint of Northerlies, you could even anchor off the outside (bay side) of the Mogote.

You likely will have little time to get off of docks before dark.

July will see corumels. MOST (!) anchorages in Bahia de la Paz have little/no protection to corumels.

Re: Best anchorages near la paz, mexico

I agree that Bahia Falsa is probably the best bet close to La Paz. But because it is close it can also be quite busy. The good news/bad news is that July is very hot and there are not many people out sailing.

As noted, Coromuels are an issue and Ballandra can be particularly bumpy, particularly in the area that is still open to anchoring. Weekend evenings can be noisy as well with beach parties and the like.

Costa Baja is a very nice marina (although a bit windless which is good during hurricane season but not good when it is super hot). A night there and an early start to Espiritu Santo might make sense. As noted, getting away before dark could be tricky.

Some people anchor in Pichilinque, next to the industrial/ferry port. Its right next to the highway and I would expect it to be quite noisy. But it is really close to Costa Baja.
