pirate Yacht in distress NSW, Oz

Dunno if it's been posted already but there's a 19 metre yacht in distress, two people onboard 185 odd nm East of Nowra, NSW.
Helicopters and two Oz navy ships enroute expected to arrive around 6pm.

If they have been getting something like we've had in Melbourne with 50kn squalls, hail etc I imagine it wouldn't be too pleasant out there in an open(ish) racing boat

NB: 185 kilometers east of Nowra. They have probably been rescued by now. The second war ship was due to arrive on scene at 11 PM yesterday evening, with attempt to rescue predicted for first light. I'm not sure why they sent the HMAS Canberra, too. That's big guns. Possibly because of the ADF (Australian Defense Force) connection.

Coming inside for a coffee, and checking.......
Can't see the abandoned boat, can see "Nemesis", which has allegedly the 2 crew on board, heading to Sydney, and I can see "HMAS Canberra", heading more south of Sydney.

Ah, could be. I just have 'unnamed pleasure craft' showing up.
I see Nemesis has Class B and identifies as 'pleasure craft'.

No formal connection to the ADF, they do sometimes take veterans on board.

Re: Yacht in distress NSW, Oz

News reports are saying they had a damaged rudder and sail.
The associated video shows a furling headsail that is shredded.
Mast and standing rigging look to be okay and the yacht is riding high so now obvious indication of flooding.

My hypothesis is that the rudder failed and, with the big seas and winds occurring at the time, the wild action of the boat caused the shredding of the sail.
Possibly the furling line broke causing more problems?

Regardless, they are safe on land now and the boat is (presumably) sailing off on its own adventure.

Interesting they still have their mainsail cover on.
