SV Guilana Sinks
Surprised no one else has posted this.
46’ Gran Solie. Sounds like they hit something that damaged the rudder, then an attempted tow made water ingress worse.
Pics at link.

Kilmore Quay lifeboat attended and found the Yacht was taking on board water. Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter R117 was tasked to assist.
Attempts were made to salvage the Guiliana with pumps. However, just after 8:00am, the decision was taken to abandon yacht.
The Giuliana has now sunk and the 4 persons on board were returned safely to shore.

Re: SV Guilana Sinks
It will be interesting to read the Marine Accident report on this one when it comes out.
Of course some people will still want to speculate with profundity in the total absence of reliable data...

Re: SV Guilana Sinks
Just one more instance in a long line of examples why stern-hung rudders should become the standard again.
Edit to add: Grand Soleil 45's have a spade rudder. What a surprise. Not.

Re: SV Guilana Sinks
 Orcas?
Joking, but worth considering implications for those involved in the Orca vs rudder thread.

I'm guessing it's because there's so little information on what happened, eh Howard. Just the RNLI report and nothing more...
Bit of a mystery. Maybe there'll be a magazine article at a later date, although unless they had refloated the boat/the pumps had been able to keep up enough to keep her floating, the reason for her sinking won't be discovered.
Loss of their beautiful boat is a crummy end-result.
Fair winds, All,
