Wow, that was a proud, tall mast! Cost to replace?? [$$$$$!] Wonder if she'll be repaired ?

Re: My Song - Lost
Yeah that very tall mast offers a good bit of leverage to pull the boat off the deck in a breeze.. so if the ship happened to be going 15 knots into a 15 knot headwind.... I wonder if the engineers figured that in when they strapped 'er on the deck...

Re: My Song - Lost
Heard from my friend, whose boat is on MV Brattinsborg, that the ship is now anchored off Split, Croatia, not being allowed to dock due to "ongoing legal issues as a result of the previous incident". He can't get his boat until that mess is resolved. Hardly fair to the other boat owners...

That is utterly ridiculous. Is it even legal to hold someone's property like that?
As far as I am aware no one is claiming anything criminal happened?

Re: My Song - Lost
Here's a link to a German website (use Google translate, it does a half-decent job of converting to English), with lots of pictures of the boat after it was salvaged. Very sad to see such a beautiful boat so badly damaged...

That mast? 300k and up and that's just for the stick.

I'll venture that hull is beyond reasonable repair.

Re: My Song - Lost
Even if the cradle was supplied and built by the boat owners, one would assume that the shipper, Peters and May, crew would inspect and approve the cradle before sailing with it, if only to protect other vessels being shipped in the same load.
Id suspect there will be other legal action from owners of vessels sequestered on the ship while the investigation continues.
Will be interesting to follow this story.

I wonder if they lowered the keel to the deck.

Re: My Song - Lost
It seems the cradle designer was a little optimistic on strength needed for transport, or possibly it was not attached to the ship as well as it should be.
