Re: Monster Waves!

The article you link to is about monster waves off the coast of CA. So are you saying you were offshore in that weather to lose your boat?

Forcast was minimum small Craft warnings 21 Knots, 3-4' swell with 3' wind Waves.
Can handle that easily.
Blew a consistent 50 Knots for 2 hours
Was in 35' seas
Only my seamanship kept me alive!

Cheers Skip

Re: Monster Waves!

Where did you loose the boat? ?
If you get more than enough hand outs to buy a new boat maybe you could pass some my way , I'm almost out of money.

I edited out the link for donations, our rules don’t allow asking for money. For any purpose

Should have done more weather research, Windy, Grib files, lots of resources, no need to rely on the NWS, which is usually wrong. Also, insurance is a good thing to have when your “seamanship” doesn’t work out. Lesson learned, eh?

Re: Monster Waves!

What would stop you from just sinking the new one?

What do you mean, stop? It is a part of a business plan.

Re: Monster Waves!

I'll give you about $0.39 for the boat in the picture. It had no business being offshore in the winter on the west coast.

I wonder if the awesome seamanship of the OP includes having sails that fit?

Re: Monster Waves!

I need a couple grand for a new dinghy outboard and another grand for a new mainsail....ohhh wait, sorry, I think I'll work and support myself and take responsibility for my own decisions....but then again, I'm an adult.
