Just as we were discussing microbursts in a thunderstorm at Long Island, a 27 foot Proline fishingboat was hit by the sudden waves from a microburst just off shore here in the Florida panhandle. Successive waves flooded the engines, flooded the boat, and flipped it. The crew was rescued; they managed to get off an SOS.
Here's the article in the Tallahassee Democrat yesterday
They can be very strong. A summer micro burst out of nowhere took down a tree on our property that was about 2 ft diameter. It just came and went in about 2 minutes.

Had one of the derelict homemade house boats overturn in the river yesterday, put a man and his dog in the water, USCG rescued them after a dockmate called, I didn’t see it, we were down below, it had been there for a couple of years so it was a significant weather event, I believe we had gusts to over 40 and small hail.
