Ooops. Accidents happen. Could say lots but know nothing of circumstances so won't. Just highlights its always worth keeping a good lookout behind you, though...

Re: M/T Tropic Breeze Struck by Mega Yacht Utopia IV and Sinks Off the Coast of New P
The interesting questions would be whether the tanker had a functioning AIS transponder, and whether the Mega Yacht had its AIS collision alarms turned on.
The Mega Yacht almost certainly had MARPA radar on board, but was it turned on and did the crew know how to use it?
Some Mega Yacht Captain is going to be looking for another career.

207 foot boat runs right up the stern of a tanker.
Pretty such that tells me everything needed to know, UNLESS the tanker changed course right before instead of maintaining course

Does Maritime Management own a fancy new mega yacht now?

Re: M/T Tropic Breeze Struck by Mega Yacht Utopia IV and Sinks Off the Coast of New P
What really gripes me about this incident is that they didn't even stick around to rescue the crew! It was the m/v Mara who did that.
And, hpeer, the cargo will evaporate, it was mostly various gases. It is in the news article, and there was a link to it. In any event, at 6,000 ft., it lies too deep for salvage, or cost-effective salvage.

Utopia IV flying the flag of the Marshall Islands tied up in front of the owner's house in Miami Beach in March of 2020.

It is a real caution how many big powerboats are involved with bad watchkeeping collisions, some causing sailboat deaths.
Don't expect them to know Colregs or follow them. Keep a sharp eye out and keep yourselves safe. If they have AIS and you have an AIS receiver, call them by name and ask their plans for avoiding you, but don't spend very much time on the radio, it can take quite a while to get the CPA to open up.

The Captain/Helmsman/Watchkeeper was probably below mixing cocktails for the cabin guests.

This 63m / 207ft motoryacht has 13 crew, which will consist of Captain & Deck Crew, Engineers, and multiple Stewardesses.
So it is highly unlikely that any of the Deck Crew (who would be the ones on watch in the bridge) would be ' below mixing cocktails' while the boat is underway at night (or at any time) - that is not their role onboard.
Instead Stewardess(es) are on duty for guest service.
This is a terrible incident and it will be interesting to see the outcome, but let's not write unsubstantiated comments about something which you appear to have limited or no knowledge of.
That only makes you look foolish (as have a couple of other comments from people who should know better too...).
