Re: impressive rescue
Kudos to the Coasties!
Glad they could rescue her all that way out, with re-fueling and all. Big Wow!
Thank you, USCG SF...very much.

Re: impressive rescue
Agree, excellent work and coordination to pull that off. Good job USCG!
Report said person accidentally ingested antifreeze. Not sure how that would happen, but from past work experience I know it isn't a pleasant experience. I hope she pulls through.

Re: impressive rescue
This week my newbie crew asked me how far out the CG could send a helicopter when we were about 400 miles out of SFO. I told them the CG would divert a ship until we got within 250 miles of the coast. Fortunately, my crew had been on the boat for two weeks, were over their seasickness, and were just internet deprived, not suicidal.

Re: impressive rescue
I think the record is the Tony Bullimore rescue where an RAN ship was sent 1400NM from Perth to get him.

Re: impressive rescue
Impressive foresight and training to have fuel for the helo onboard the cutter and be able to touch/refuel on short notice. Great work!

Re: impressive rescue
Has anyone had a leak of the engine coolant water heater exchanger?

Yes. It blew out the exhaust on start of the engine, Jim was watching the exhaust, and quickly turned off the engine. Required replacement of the whole heat exchanger, as they would not sell the tubes separately (Kubota 45 w. Nanni marinization).

Ya...I was wondering the same thing...how do you accidentally ingest antifreeze?

Gotta keep your eyes on them zincs. A worn out zinc will kill a heat exchanger. I'm rebuilding a Beta 38 (Kubota based) with Beta marinization. The pencil zincs are pathetically small and wear out fast. Hence the salt water goes after the Aluminum and copper.

Re: impressive rescue
No zincs, in ours (planned obsolescence??) but you're definitely right about them, check them whenever you change oil.
