A large thunderstorm, known as a DANA
*, has caused damage to several yachts, including the 30.48-metre sailing yacht 'Wally Love', at the port of La Savina in Formentera.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the thunderstorm has seen strong gusts of
wind exceeding 100-kilometres per hour.
Videos and
images, posted by eyewitnesses, show several yachts adrift on the rocks, in La Savina, with the cruiser-racer yacht 'Wally Love' listing in the
water.
According to SYT iQ, there are several yachts along the coast of Formentera which may have been affected by the storm. This includes' Wally Love' and 'Sea Belle', as well as the 25.9-metre Arcadia yacht 'Dhamma II' and the 29.1-metre Sanlorenzo yacht 'Aman', and 32.83-metre Custom Line yacht 'Alvium', which are docked nearby.
* A DANA [Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos] is a term, used in
Spain, to describe a cold drop, such as a high impact rainfall, in one area.
The temperatures in the area have significantly dropped, with a yellow alert issued, for heavy rain.
The DANA is
forecast to bring heavy or very heavy showers and storms until the end of the day (Wednesday 14 August).
An orange alert is still active in Ibiza and Formentera for rainfall, that can accumulate 50 millimetres, in an hour , for Wednesday.
On Thursday, it is expected that this may be accompanied by hail, up to two-centimetres in diameter, and very strong gusts of
wind, that could exceed 100-kilometres per hour.
