Re: Boat Tries To Sail Into Choppy Ocean, Things Do Not Go Well

There has been a large easterly swell running, and although it diminished by the 19th, and the impounded water was ebbing out of the river mouth, one sees those kinds of swells at many of the barred entrances. There's a pic somewhere of a fishing boat that, desperate to go fishing, got sunk by a larger wave than those. The boat was re-floated and may still be in service, but the repairs ran into the tens of thousands, possibly exceeding $100,00 before it was serviceable. Most barred entries are posted with a number of warnings. That is a don't mess with mother nature sort of video, at best.

Why not exit further from the rocks? Is there a Channel that the boat was staying in? Wave height 100’ further off the rocks looked much more manageable. Was this showing off and then... oops?
