Australia considering not monitoring HF for emergency

Based on new technology, what are the ramifications for this ?

Australia considering discontinuing monitoring HF in 2022.

Re: Australia considering not monitoring HF for emergency

Gday Dave,
I guess its a sign of the times. Go back to when navigators did not even have a compass. Now there is a lot of discussion about not requiring charts now due to our reliance on electronic charts. Radios were the only source of contact. Now we can contact anyone in the world on our phones, computer and even our watch. Our safety has also increased exponentially with AIS, Radar and both vessel and personal epirbs.
Regardless of the possibility of official government listening stations HF its my opinion that there will be lots of radio hams out there listening in.

AFAIK, HF will remain monitored by DSC.
