Many/most pleasure
boat accidents never show up there, and none from outside the
USA. Of course, most don't involve loss of life or serious injury, and often the Coast Guard isn't even involved. Often, the cause of an
offshore sinking is impossible to pinpoint without the vessel being around to investigate. I always remember the story of Arthur Beiser, author of the Proper Yacht, and the sinking of their Nicholson 70. The only explanation is something let go and the
boat sunk.
