Vilm 2, go anywhere 40ft Pilothouse Ketch, ready to go world circum, price: 86000Euro

VILM 2, build in 1984 hull No17, length 12.10m / wide / 3.60m / draft 1,45m longkeeler with skeg (can fall dry), displacement with all liveaboard gear is 13t
Pilothouse Ketch, 2 cabins (master: bed 220cmx205cm), engine Volvo MD30A original 2400H, standing height 205cm inside.

The Vilm is complete, everything checked, updated, maintained in the last 13 months. Ship is 100% self-sufficient and ready to go for a 10-year circumnavigation. Sell Vilm because of the change to catamaran. Vilm has 3 owners, complete 37 years history avaliable eg. 31 years in sweetwater/Lake Constance / Wallhausen. Nearly all on the ship is from 2016 or newer.

Sale price is: 86000Euro

The VILM is the East German Najad or Halberg-Rassy, go anywhere ship known for first-class workmanship and quality. The sailing characteristics are identical to the Halberg Rassy 37, which all Vilm 2 owners use for the needed polars, for example for planning weather routes with PredictWind or setup MaxSea as Vilm cannot provide polars.
Almost everything on the ship is from 2016 or younger, the previous owner and myself have now prepared the ship for a 10-year circumnavigation.
Survey 01/2020 by Hendrik Pilz, the well known surveyor of boat professionals.TV for 2 days => completely free of defects / very good condition

Complete 37 years of history of the Vilm:
1st Owner (from Germany): 1984-2015 in Wallhausen / lake constance/sweet water!!!, sold in 2015 with org. 1100h / engine. Hardly sailed, was mostly in the harbor as a "floating holiday home", sold because of company bankruptcy.
2nd Owner (from Austria)
- 2015 shipment to Aprillia Marittima / IT in the shipyard there
- Complete overhaul of the ship from 2016-Feb 2017 for approx. 80,000 euros (everything repainted inside / outside, teak deck removed, pilot house extended, engine / transmission / shaft checked and what is necessary replaced, new shaft and Volvo stuffing box, osmosis renovation underwater hull (unnecessary) Electrics new etc .. Unfortunately hardly any bills because most of it was made black.
- Feb. 2017 to Jan. 2020 => along the coast from I; ES, PT to Canaries motorized, port to port. Crossing Canary Islands storm and wife refuses to continue => Sales reason with 2300h on machine / gear / shaft in Las Palmas / Gran Canaria
3rd owner/me => sailes ship in the Canaries, tested & optimized for world circumnavigation and sailed between the Canary Islands, mostly self-sufficient at anchor, port Gran Canaria and Arceife during the lockdowns, 2400H on motor / gear / shaft on 02/18/2021 => reason for sale switched to catamaran

Sounds delightful, but small for our purpose. We are looking for >42' to comfortably accommodate 4 adults with scuba gear.

Hi, the VIlm accomodates comfortably 4 adults with scub gear for 4.

The boat has large storage capabilities for 40 ft. one reason I bought it.
We are 2 permanently, sometimes 4 adults and have full scuba for 2 with 4 tanks, 8 kites, 4 Kiteboards, 2 Sups, 4 surfboards, foulding electric bike, a portable genny and the smallest Bauer Dive Kompressor

In the Pilothouse you have per side a massive locker that meassures length 1,30m x 1m wide x1 meter deep. Only one side will take your whole scub gear for 4 plus a portable gennny and the smallest 220V Bauer dive compressor guess how I know...elevated Pilothouse with engine in the middle&underneath it, left and right the massive locker under the seating bench the whole length and to the bottom of the boat.

Only downside for 4 is one head I have to admit a bit, still acceptable though. But the boat is dirty cheap to run as it is a ketch, the main mast&rigging is of a 35ft plus mizzen makes it sail surface of a 40th. Everything is small, parts&sail dirty cheap and is mostly in stock of the local chandler as its the typical day sailor size, common and cheap. Engine MD30A is the only volvo ever fully constructed and build inhouse as a marine engine, with 65hp its the smallest config natural aspirated one (identical(!) engine with turbo up to 140hp) which is even only slightly stressed when running under full load, super relaible and only 2400h on it.

A comparable 44ft would be double running costs, a 48-50 triple or even quadruople running costs. Just as an example, a backstay with terminal is 150Euro for the Vilm, my buddy runs a 44ft Dufour and his backstay is 650Euro at the same boat yard.

Was somehow at the same spot then you and then the Vilm was offered for half of my budget, so I bought it. A boat is always a compromise...For what you save you can go more often into marina and actually on anker we hardly use the head (only for sh.. business) and showering at the stern shower directly after a swim.

only upgrading to a catamaran because figured I sail a lot (much more then I tought) and a) the heeling of a mono is just so much more physically exhausting then a cat when 100% live aboard and b) the mono makes 5-6kn in average, the cat 10kn so you can outsail weather and cut long passage time in half.

Very hard to find a cruising catamaran that will average 10 kts.

True, not always but often when you can do 10kn. with 5kn average you have no chance to do so.
