Re: 1979 Kaiser Gale Force Cutter. $87,900

The price of $87,900 includes man extras such as dingy and outboard engine, hundreds of charts etc. so we are negotiable as you may not want all of extras. Also we are obviously not having to pay any commission. The length overall is 40 feet with bowsprit and MONITOR windvane, documented at 34 feet. It is full keel with 7000 lbs of lead in sheets fiber glassed into the hull. Design weight is 9 tons but we weighed in at 12 tons for our 30 day crossings. MIRAGE (our boat) carries 90 gallons fresh water, 105 gallons of diesel, three propane tanks, over 300 feet of chain (used several times) and many stores. MIRAGE has been thru many gales, full storms, and one 80 knot hurricane (and 40 foot seas) without problems. It has been inundated by large waves several times. MIRAGE is a US built (I have original core samples and it was hand laid with up to 18 layers of glass) and documented vessel. It is a really tough boat I'll be glad to talk at length on details with anyone really interested. We will miss MIRAGE, but we are getting old and would like to see someone who really wants to go cruising and become the next owner.

That's a beautiful boat, and it looks like someone has been taking care of their brightwork.

I think it’s very cool that you were the original owner. That’s not very common with a book from 1979.

Re: 1979 Kaiser Gale Force Cutter. $87,900

Thanks for the complements on the boat. I handle the brightwork, and my wife keeps MIRAGE varnished so it looks good. Of note the last refit was over $100,000. The boats purchase price hit $125K around 1985 for new boats, and then slowly declined after that time. I think the main reason for that is everything is accessible and maintainable, everything was done right with high quality materials, and the new owner can go cruising without spending years making modifications to an old boat and spending a lot of money on upgrades.

I have a friend in Maine with a Gale Force cutter named Plieone. It's a well built and great sailing boat. Someone will get a good deal on this boat!

Re: 1979 Kaiser Gale Force Cutter. $87,900

Hi, thanks for the kind words on MIRAGE (Kaiser Gale Force). People tend to forget that full keel boats can sail and can go to windward. We sailed for 82 days from Auckland New Zealand to Kodiak Alasaka (8100 nautical miles) with about half of that going to windward, taking a 11 day beating into 25 to 30 knots day and night. That fazed us a bit, but not MIRAGE. Once we were back in Alaska we used to just laugh as 60 foot big logs rolled under the boat along the keel and came up behind the boat. I'm not knocking fin keelers, as we loved our first boat a 29 foot Erickson with wheel steering. But it would have a challenge in Alaska weather standing behind the wheel near the stern in freezing weather and 60 knots all day. I love all boats but they all excel only in some environments. MIRAGE was meant to cruise and take the seaway less traveled. It will sell itself once anyone sees it. Myles and Sandy

Wow, interesting tales. Makes me glad I switched to powerboats with nice dry pilothouses [emoji846]

Hi, I am glad you are enjoying your power boat in the sun and out of the cold and rain. I have always felt sailboats are primarily power boats, with a cheap green alternate power source( the wind). Nevertheless MIRAGE can power along for close to 1000 nautical miles with our fuel tanks and efficient engine for those of you not inclined to sail. Regards, Myles and Sandy

Can you spell “Blue Water”. Now that’s a sailboat worth setting sail in. Good luck with selling her and wishing you fairwinds going forward.

Re: 1979 Kaiser Gale Force Cutter. $87,900

Thanks for the nice reply. I am always surprised that with the price of houses and renting, more people aren't looking for a place to live on a boat until they can get off cruising. We did that for many years off and on, and it short circuited getting everything on the boat ready for blue water and new adventures. Regards, Myles and Sandy

Special Blue Water Cruiser Ready To Take You Anywhere You Want

This excellent condition boat's price is reduced to $77,000. This sailboat is a US Coast Guard Documented vessel which makes entry into foreign countries easy and also makes mortgages easier to obtain if necessary. Also there is no sales or use tax applicable to most buyers. There is a storage yard available for $220/month if necessary until the boat can be moved or sailed away. The current location of the boat is in the Pacific Northwest near Canada on Whidbey Island Washington. Alaska is beckoning with a run up the Inside Passage amongst incredible scenery and a everyday adventure!!

Please see "For Sale Listing" "Kaiser Gale Force" for pictures and details. A lot of additional info is available on request or by telephone.

NOTE!! We are unable to update our original listing so resorted to this method.
