The fact is sailing boats that’s are not tied down are selling , mobos are taking much much longer round here.

Secondly people in general want modern , they buy modern cars , modern houses and apartments and their boat choices will be no different

The reality is that modern production yachts are of sufficient build quality and robustness to satisfy many if not all purchasers. It’s a very small niche of specialised buyers that want something different , very few people are looking to buy “ expedition “ yachts etc.

I friend of mine bid recently on a big , well known semi custom exploration style yacht recently , it went for 30 % below asking , because the market is “ soft “ at this rarified end. Buyers are much thinner on the ground.

Whereas in the standard production yachts boats in the 15 years and younger are flying of the shelves.

As was pointed out a 40 year old boat will remove tons of buyers from the potential sale. It’s just the way it is.

remember the value of a boat is what a buyer will pay , not what you think it’s worth.
Unfortunately, this is a good explanation of what is happening.

It looks like a nice boat that was well maintained but from a marketing perspective, it's got going to be a tough sell unless you find that perfect buyer who is looking for this exact boat.

The thing that baffles me is why you think if it's not selling at $71k, you can list it with a broker and suddenly it will go for $120k. If that's in any way realistic, I would have expected someone to pick it up for $65k then quickly flip it for $100k making $35k in the process.

I wish you well in selling her but the last line of dockhead's comment is ultimately the answer.

Hi Valhalla360, of course you are right. No broker would list the boat at $120K and I actually refused to allow the boat to be listed at $100K or higher by the first listing broker even though there were higher comps. Guess the day I made that off hand remark, I was just feeling a little flip and frustrated. I am prepared to accept whatever supply/demand offer a buyer eventually makes for MIRAGE. My apologies to anyone offended by my sarcasm. Cheers Mylesi

No offense taken.

I get the frustration as it appears to be a very nice boat but the market doesn't care about sentiment.

Re: Special Blue Water Cruiser Ready To Take You Anywhere You Want

Hi and thanks to all for looking at our boat. We will be deleting this post the coming week since MIRAGE will be taking one last trip to a new destination (a listing broker). No words can ever convey what this boat has done for us. I hope all the wannabe cruisers out there have the chance to see a magic world, a new life style, and one day return to family and friends. Your life will change for the better. Go now or go soon. Myles and Sandy

Hope all goes well with Mirage. There will never be a shortage of Wannabe's on this or any forum. For most but not all, it is easier to pretend the dream than live it. Hope i was helpful with some of my comments.

Hello Celestial Sailor, Your comments were helpful and appreciated. Maybe once our boat is sold, we will do some chartering to a lot of places we never got to see. FIJI is up pretty high on the list. Thanks Myles

@ yacht mirage,

Hope all goes well with selling her, mate. We always want our beloved boats to go to a good home, not the knacker's yard. The "market" is entirely without regard for our sentimentality. Spend enough years aboard one, and one becomes attached. Unfortunately, even well meaning owners do dumb things that stuff up what we think is a perfect boat. Life. Not always fun.

Ann

Re: Special Blue Water Cruiser Ready To Take You Anywhere You Want

Thank-you Ann for the kind words. One of our regrets was not having sailed to Australia when we were already in New Zealand, but my parents both in their 90's didn't have much time so we returned home and eventually took a 10 year detour to Alaska. If I was a young man (75 or less) I'd be loading up MIRAGE and heading South your way again. My biggest fear is MIRAGE may untie herself and takeoff without us. Ha. Thanks for being a moderator and making this site a pleasure to visit. Cheers (to Ginger Beer) Myles and Sandy

It is listed on Yachtworld with a broker at $66K.

Unfortunately for the seller there is another one on the market for $35K, that one is not in the same league but it is half the price!

There is one in the GGR race, it is being sailed by the only American still in the race. Unfortunately he is pretty far back in the standings.
