Thanks. I'd definitely upgrade your
sails to the Doyle BX-Tech's, or similar high quality laminated aramid sail. You'll definitely more UV exposure down there, but so long as you take care of your
sails, I see no reason you couldn't get a minimum of 6 years out of them. Just make sure to have a sail maker inspect them annually, and make appropriate
repairs along the way.
As for hydranet-- that's really a heavy duty cruising sail material. Great for
passage making, but really too heavy to take full advantage of lighter winds and certainly not ideal for
racing.
