Re: Rhodes Bounty II Project

Maybe the dream is the destination. Some folks, usually those obsessed with money, just never seem to understand the the joy is in the journey. I do not believe I'm the first to make this observation.

This has been the most thorough thread-jack I have ever seen. The gentleman is trying to sell his boat.

Here's a bright idea for you knuckleheads. Let's try to help him.

Re: Rhodes Bounty II Project

Maybe she did sell...?
If I were a bit younger, single and with few encumbrances I'd buy her, put the mast back up, live on her, take on the restoration bit by bit and sail her whenever I could. If I were generously endowed with financial freedom I'd take her to a yard like that Hinckley yard that restored a Rhodes 41 and say, "here's a blank check, go for it! I'll be back in six months."

Re: Rhodes Bounty II Project

I’ve always thought Bountys had one of the most graceful and attractive cabin trunk and window arrangements of any boat. That and how it flows into the coaming.

There’s a fairly bristol example for sale on the west coast for less than $20k. $9k might be unrealistic.

And then there's the drool worthy Reliant: https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/196...liant-2645319/

I'd go for one of these gorgeous classics over a new Euro sailing condo any day.

Re: Rhodes Bounty II Project

Hi there.

I am replying to this post for three reasons.

Firstly, I am having some propellor issues with my Bounty 2, and wondered if the current (new?) Owner of this one can let me know what size and pitch their prop is?

Secondly, as a long term owner of a bounty 2, I can say that, having sunk over £100k into Tiare and still a way away from perfection, she will happily eat up every penny you have.

Having said that, over 12 years she has given us holidays and weekend sails and our boys have grown up with her. She is totally part of the family and I will die before I sell her. At 45, I hope that's not for a while!

Also, while she eats the cash when you have it, you can also get by on not spending a lot in leaner years...

The last thing on the money front.. no one talks about it, but realistically you need to have £5k minimum a year to be able to drop on a yacht of 41ft. £10k a year is a much more realistic number.

Thirdly, if the new owner is looking to raise some funds, I am very interested in the wheel pedestal..? They are terrific under tiller, and it is just the cockpit gets a bit small with the mizzen in there too! I will happily swap a silicon bronze tiller, an autohelm system and some money for it.

Thanks

Ben
