Reasonably performant cruiser 33-39'

We're in the market for a reasonably performant cruiser to be home ported in Valdez, AK. Plans are family/friends cruising Prince William Sound (PWS), Kodiak, and Southeast (inside and outside). Usually will sail with 2 to 4 people, maybe as much as 5 or 6 on occasion. Would consider boats with berths for 5+ (including settees etc)

We're looking at boats in Alaska, Yukon, BC, WA, and perhaps Oregon.

Not tied to a specific model, but we've generated a short list of possibilities including cal 35, cal 39 mk ii, cs 36, ericson 34-2, ericson 35-3, ericson 33, ericson 36, ericson 38.

We would give serious consideration any boat in the 33-39 foot range, no hull core, and with reasonable performance. We're a light air venue in PWS.

We're not racers, but we have been using PHRF to get a grip on sailing ability. PHRF <155 or so is what we have been looking for.

Budget is about 50K after sailing the boat to Valdez, so probably looking at prices in the mid 40's for a boat in BC /WA area.

Not looking for a project. I recognize every boat needs some work, but I'm looking for a boat that's already functional.

Good Engine, hull, and decks is important. Good sails, dodger, bimini, enclosure, and heat are big pluses.

We're CASH buyers and we want to buy this spring.

If you got something you think fits, shoot me a PM or reply here.

thanks.

Re: Reasonably performant cruiser 33-39'

I have a 1979 CAL39MKII for sale in Miami. Price is $25K firm, it is not a project boat, it needs a new bottom paint- no blisters, new bearings on the roller furler, and for costmetics Purposes only replace the top plywood in the cabin sole. You can look at my add at the south florida craig list or call me at my cell and I will send all recnet pictures of the boat. My cell is 561-213-9038 or email me at carlosproacarlos@yahoo.com.

thanks, probably not interested in trying to truck a boat across the country--at least not yet.

Musher, I can't help you with your search (from Tasmania) but complement you on a well fleshed-out want ad. Gives us enough info to actually visualize the sort of boat you want.

Good luck with the search.

Jim

I'm not sure about the phrf, but would a Pacific Seacraft 37 fit your needs? Here's one, but maybe it has more equipment than you need:
