PRICE REDUCED 48' Aluminium Bluewater Custom Built Yacht For Sale

After eight years of cruising Mediterranean waters essentially full time, Seaworthy Lass and I are now absolutely addicted to the lifestyle and have decided to fulfil a dream - to have a new boat designed to our specifications. We have commissioned the build of a Bestevaer 49ST and we sadly need to bid farewell to the yacht that has kept us safe in comfort and style and provided so much pleasure over what have been the very best years of our lives. She is now offered for sale.

This thoroughbred aluminium yacht was entirely professionally built and fitted out. She was constructed by Alumarine in France, a specialist aluminium shipyard that has built everything from superyachts to vessels for harbour authorities and emergency services. The interior was finished in cherry by a team headed by Charles Remeau, a superbly skilled craftsman of the "old school" who created a warm, luxurious, nautical atmosphere.

Custom built for a couple who at the age of 60 were retiring and wanted to fulfil a lifelong dream of circumnavigating, which they did, this safe offshore passage maker is indulgently designed for two, with an extra cabin available for two guests.

Primarily, the yacht is strong and sails beautifully. With an in-boom Leisure Furl system and twin roller furled headsails, she is easily managed. Safe cruising over long distances with low maintenance systems were a priority with the design and fit out.

No bow thruster on a 48 footer?
The tiller steering might also be a issue for me.
Any chance of some photos of the cockpit, hull and aft?
Where about in Greece is she, as I'm in Cyprus.

Thanks for the interest Neil. Sorry for late reply.

Bow thruster? That's always a tough one.
For our new boat we initially specified no thruster, then no thruster but the tube welded in place. Finally we relented and went the whole way with a bow thruster. So I guess I agree that one is desirable, although they are a maintenance headache so I'm still a bit in two minds.

The tiller is a no-brainer. It is a much better system in my opinion than a wheel. Simpler and much more robust and no maintenance. The tiller swings up out of the way and makes for more room in the cockpit. The boat is easy to steer and the tiller provides more direct feedback for the helmsman with no slop or play (although most of the time a boat like this will be on autopilot.) When manoeuvering in a marina, the tiller allows for very rapid changes in direction and there is never any doubt as to the position of the rudder.
Our new boat will also have a tiller. In fact most of the Bestevaers have been equipped with a tiller including the designer's (Dykstra's) 53 footer, which was the first of the series.

This photo from the mast will give you an idea of the cockpit layout. The teak cockpit table lifts up from the floor and if everyone is friendly it will seat eight. Below the table there is a bolted hatch on the cockpit floor and when removed it allows the engine and generator to be lifted directly out using the boom. Lots of great features that are just not seen on production boats.

No, it has a fixed keel so there is no pivoting/lifting mechanism to worry about, or compromise to the stability. Of course with an aluminium boat it is an integrated keel so there are not even any keel bolts to cause problems.

So the mast goes all the way to the bottom of the hull base - lead base as a weight?

How and where is mast base - on deck or down in hull? If in hull how is it set - in lead or aluminium?
