Boat: Ted Brewer, Bulldog 30' built in aluminum
Posts: 108
Re: PRICE CHANGE: 30' Ted Brewer Alu Cutter

Addendum:

Hull welded with 5000 series 1/4" hull tapered to 3/16" topsides and deck sheet aluminum over 5/16" L-shaped ribs and stringers to 7/16" stem as Brewer specified. Access original shop drawings and photos obtained from boatbuilder in Minnesota; I am third owner.
Fully insulated hull up from waterline with rigid 1 1/2" foam, including deck/house.
No evidence ever of galvanic electrolysis corrosion; my purchase survey available; zinc anodes and Trilux 33 bottom paint in good condition (previous zincs for inspection).
The Bulldog was designed by Ted for single-handing round the Capes. Tin Star is built to that high level of strength and performance.
Being away from the boat during hurricane season, I want to find a owner/skipper who will be within arms length at any time of year that is fine vessel stays the course.

Wow, this just ticks so many of my "wants", but medical issues mean that I'm not going to be ready to buy for about a year :-(.

Hi, curious about the boat builder in MN & any surveys. Home built or yard?
Weld Certifications. Etc. Thanks.

Re: PRICE CHANGE: 30' Ted Brewer Alu Cutter

Original plans (yellowing by the year, so I reprinted them in 2010) built by F.W. Hooper, I have the photos of his build and some of the launch.
Tin Star has been refitted entirely since the launch in 1989: stem to stern, mast to bilge. Only the welded hull, deck, tanks, keel and rudder remain.
I have the 2010 survey regarding the resulting refit.

Would something this size be safe sailing down to Antarctica during the right time of year?

Re: PRICE CHANGE: 30' Ted Brewer Alu Cutter

According to Ted (sounds like a Bible verse, I know), he offered to sail around the Horn with me "...if he were thirty years younger."
Same for me.
I just emailed him yesterday to clarify which series 5000 aluminum plate: 5086/5083?
So short answer: Ted designed the Bulldog for a client to be sailed single handed anywhere in the world. Tin Star, is "built like church, and comfortable as an old shoe."

You would need to come aboard and examine the welds yourself, but here are a few photos.

Tin Star has sailed off to the safety of the Chesapeake with her new owner/skipper. Thank you for your interest and comments. She will fulfill her true potential as the new captain has interests far ranging and adventurous.
