You have to be here and act fast to get a decent 60-70k boat for 40k...many are picked up by flippers for resale. A few of my boats were purchased this way...at 40-50% below market.
Where is "here"?

I've looked at a lot of boats, and I usually don't find the ones "priced for quick sale". I mostly find the ones that are overpriced and tired.

This seems to be a uniquely US perspective

Im looking for a -40 foot cruiser. $50k budget HELP
My 41'Gulfstar center cockpit Ketch is for sale at a bargain price ($25,000). My wife and I have gotten too old to use it (82). A lot of cosmetic work is needed, but it is fully functional. If interested, let me know, and I will give you full details.

"Here" is in Florida, USA and I'm referencing my personal buying and selling since the mid 1960s. Very few are advertised at 40% under market and you have to make the deal...it isn't presented on a silver platter and I can't count how many times someone said to me "if I knew they would have sold it for that price I would have bought it." Or... "do you want to make a quick $5k and sell it to me?" Like I posted earlier, if a seller is "insulted" by my low offer its his personal problem, not mine. You just have to know a little about boats and use the right tools for negotiation. It isn't rocket science and probably not exclusive to the USA either.
