Oceanis 46 or Bavaria 46

Hi all,

After tons of research and watching/seeing many vessels we have shortlisted these 2 boats. However, these (owner versions) are not readily available with the following must/nice to haves:

Must haves:
- 3 cabins (for family of 4)
- 2 heads/2 showers
- Draft about 1.7m
- Generator
- Roller main (must have, but no dealbreaker)

- Inner stay sail (nice to have)
- Davits (nice to have)
- Solar, water maker, washing machine (nice to have)
- Available in Europe (traveling outside Europe is still too much of an hassle).

If you are thinking to sell your boat or know someone, please let me know!

I should mention only boats from around the 2006-2009 period.

- Davits (for solar panels yes 300W)
- water maker NO(why you need this in EU when you have port, marina water source every couple nm)
-washing machine (no)
- Available in Europe (yes ).

Re: Oceanis 46 or Bavaria 46

Thanks for the suggestion! I wasn't aware of it, but will take it into consideration for sure. Appreciate you offering your friends boat, we have seen several 44 feet and chosen not to go for that size.

We do plan some ocean crossings after sailing around the Med for about 6 months or so. So we would like to have some additionals onboards such as a generator and watermaker, but not entirely a must.

For the inner stay sail I meant the one you can rig up between the Genoa and main. Can be set up in case the weather worsens.

An update! It has been quite a frustrating process (I know we ought to enjoy it, but still). We had quite a number of boats looked at and almost pulled the trigger on one. Felt sorry for the broker who did his best.

We also felt that we shouldn't just focus on what is convenient for the med: large cockpit, light boats, etc. We changed our requirements and focus more on capable cruisers. I.e. the Moody's, Bennies center cockpits. They are however quite rare. Certainly the Moody 44 which we very much like, however cannot get our hands on.

Anyway, our search continues more focused on the Beneteau 44CC, Bavaria 44CC or 47CC, or J SO 47CC.

A note of caution to all of you looking for boats out there: On Yachtworld there is a Bavaria Ocean 47 for sale in Turkey. Be aware that some of the pictures (nice teak deck right?) are from 2010!! Also it claims that UK VAT is paid, but I am almost certain that it has left UK for more than 3 years, and if I am correct, VAT is void.

Good sailing to y'all and best wishes today!

Re: Oceanis 46 or Bavaria 46

I am agonizing over 2 boats, 1 being a 44ft, the other a 47ft. Both are CC, more or less equal in price. The 47ft is actually a few years younger, performs slightly better and has of course more space.

But I am afraid of the longterm cost differences between the two such as mooring fees, maintenance costs, etc.

Ehm...difficult choice..
