You can PM me if you want details and to discuss this a bit?

Oh man, if you're asking that question, you shouldn't be buying a boat at all...

Dear LittleWing77,
I don’t think there’s something wrong asking questions on this forum. Dmittri is a new member of Cruisers Sailing Forum so I personally offered him a warm welcome,
Even after having accumulated 36 years of sailing ,I occasionally ask questions that may seem trivial to some but are important to me.
I have been participating in this forum for several years and continue to appreciate the importance most participants place on our
questions.
thank you,

Re: Looking for a sailboat and advice
Wow! If the description is true that's a really great deal. 10 hrs on the engine?? Do you think that price reflects the fact that it's not a factory boat? I'm new to this so I don't know. I do know that the teenage kids would be teak wood refinishing champs after a few months

Hi Supercat,
This boat is probably in need of TLC and the price reflected that it is a divorce sale, he’ll sell it or he’ll loose it.
Also, the boat yards in Green Cove, Fl are packed with boats in needs of new owners.

That was added Feb. 2019, strange it's posted for so long.

Re: Looking for a sailboat and advice
If you’re looking for a boat I would caution you on a past charter boat. They are used hard and abused. I’d do a through survey of all the systems and check for past damage.

Re: Looking for a sailboat and advice
You should check in Europe.
The boats are much newer (later than 2010) and the prices are very good because of the pandemic.
Look here at boats up to 100K:

Does this even make sense?
Thanks for the advice!

I’ve spent most of 2019 in St Lucia and sailed back to the US on January.
You may be lucky to find an early retired ex charter Beneteau say 45-46’ with four cabins as the season there was more or less dead and the coming season doesn’t look any better. You can look in Rodney Bay marina with Andy Topham from Boatshed. The marina is great but probably not many available boats there.
You can take the ferry (one hour) to Le Marin in Martinique, the chances are way better there as the bay probably host 1,000-1,500 boats at any time and there are few brokers.
Grenada, Barbados and the southern islands could be better as many cruisers end their plans (or life...) over there.
However, with your budget of $80K you won’t be able to get a good boat ex charter or anything younger than say 2000 or so. So maybe the second hand post charter would fit. But note the maintenance of many boats in the Caribbean is quite poor and the weather isn’t helping either.
Good luck!

Thanks DeValancy. Ferry to Martinique has been cancelled for now, but I'll reach out to Andy. I can push budget to a 100k...

prices are going up in Europe due to pandemic as loads of people buying boats brokers have sold more in 4 months then the last 4 years ( a quote ) boatfs selling fast , getting asking prices and getting scarce

Tell Andy, Nitzan ( that’s me - the owner of the Contest 43) referred you...
You can also check with Ully (he has a small charter fleet there - a very nice guy) and Sunsail at the Rodney Bay marina - both have offices there.
And you’ll enjoy it there at any case.
